Namaste Hospice believes that
people with a terminal diagnosis still have a lot of living to do.
Exploring the patient’s options and learning about his or
her disease allows that person to maximize comfort, dignity and
quality of life.
The Personal Empowerment Program (PEP) enables
people to define these measures in their own terms. Together with
a PEP partner from Namaste, a patient and his or her loved ones
learn about all aspects of the disease, the options available, and
the benefits and burdens of each option. This personal journey lasts
for six weeks and is designed to be educational—meaning the
patient can still undergo curative treatment throughout the PEP
experience.
PEP is free of charge and is an excellent program
for clients who are in or approaching the final stages of a terminal
disease, but would like to learn more about their choices before
making a decision on the type of care they wish to receive.
Patients with the following diagnoses should consider
PEP:
- cancer
- heart disease
- lung disease
- dementia
- liver disease
- renal disease
- stroke and/or coma
- ALS
- MS
- HIV
- global geriatric decline
Being diagnosed with a potentially life-limiting
disease can trigger many unfamiliar feelings. PEP is a process of
deep internal exploration, and we help patients and families sort
through their feelings and make informed choices. For referrals
